Pixel 9 wks old and training coming on fast

Pixel is now 9 wks and 2.5 kg. She is such hard work. She is very head strong and has a temper on her I cant believe. she really is a puppy from hell and extra hard work, but I believe if I channel this all in the right direction she will make a fab dog..if she is still alive by them..lol

She torments the other dogs terribly and has no fear. Even strange dogs she approaches with the same manner ie jumping up at them to grab their ears, hair, face  in fact any part she can grab and pull :-(
Without a shadow of doubt if she met Disney and approached him in that manner she would be seriously hurt. We have to be extra vigilant that she never meets him until she's more respectful..if ever !

So here are a couple of videos of her at 8 weeks and then 9 weeks.

I do 5 minutes of training with her a night if possible. I grab a bit of chicken and when thats gone I finish. It would be so easy with a pup like her to carry on as she is so keen, but I want to keep her fresh and wanting more :-)

CHIP

Chip was very poorly last week. It started tuesday night/wed morning. I came down to several pools of bile. I thought nothing of it, he seemed fine and I just assumed he had been eating grass.
He was fine all day Wednesday and Thursday morning, but on Thursday afternoon he started to be sick again. I took the dogs for a late walk and he wasn't right and started to strain but nothing came. By 9.30 it was clear he wasnt well. I was worried it may be a blockage . I phoned the vet who said to watch him closely and if no improvement he'd see him no matter what time. He appeared to cheer up but to be safe I took him up to bed that night. At about 5.15 he started to vomit again. I got up with him at about 5.30 and he had violent diarrhoea :-( I waited till it was time for the vet to come on duty and I phoned as soon as I could and he said to bring him straight down. By the time we got to the vet Chip had started to vomit blood as well.  He had various injections and we agreed for me to take him home and we'd see how he went. However by 2pm Chip had started to pass blood as well. At this stage my vet said he should go in and go on a drip and have IV fluids and antibiotics. Chip was going downhill  and was quite weak and depressed. I was petrified it was a virus because of the pup and old Disney. My vet was sure it was something Chip had eaten. He stayed in overnight and I picked him up on Saturday. He was by then 100% better than the day before. He took till Monday to really improve to his normal self. The faecal results were normal , so although we don't know 100% what he had wrong it almost definitely wasn't a virus. All my other dogs remained well thank goodness :-)

8 wk Photo Shoot

We did our first "at home " photo shoot when Pixel reached 8 weeks. I was on my own, so getting a wriggly hyperactive puppy to stay in one position, then pick up the camera and take the picture proved a bit of a challenge to say the least.

However after a lot of trial and error I eventually got this :-)

Pixel Puppy :-)

7 weeks old

I'll soon be able to jump up there !

Well I wanted another Puppy like a hole in my head.  In fact I didn't want another puppy at all. I was going to wait till we had no longer got Disney as he hates puppies and Chip hates Disney, so we spend out entire time with stair gates and separated dogs, but with only Boo really to work I knew I had to get another soon or else I'd be too old to want to. It takes 18 mths to train one to competition standard and Disney doesn't look like he's going anywhere soon.

So I started to look and put feelers out.  I had met someone last year from Agility up north that had a blue merle collie x poodle and asked him where he had got her from.  I phoned the people but they had no plans at that time to breed another litter anytime soon.

So I then heard about a litter of Chinese Crested cross Collie litter. I went to see the puppies and had intended to get a little male puppy, but then Chip and Fozzie had a scrap and tension between them escalated and we felt that maybe a little girl may be better to even things out. The lady was very understanding as she didnt have a girl puppy to offer me.

So I started my search again. As quite a few months had past since my contact with the breeder of the collie poodles up north I decided to email him again. It must have been fate as he said his bitch had just given birth to 7 puppies.

3 weeks later I went to see them. The Mother was lovely, as were the pups.
I went back when they were 6 weeks old to make my choice but it was so hard to choose . The little merle boy wanted to be with me and play with me and he tugged at my heart strings, but I knew a bitch would not only be smaller and less likely to go into large, but more sensible with the dog situation. I vowed I'd never have another bitch but hey ho.
The people were great and said I could leave my final decision till when I collect and I still had pick.

Well my obedience friend Chris came with on pick up day and the boy once again came straight to me, but the I really wanted to see if the 2 little girls had changed in a week. The all merle one was very distant and didn't really do anything to help herself be chosen. But the other little girl really started to shine. So home she came.

She spent the first week being called puppy. We just couldn't decide on a female name. I had loads of male names picked but nothing for girls. There was Belle, Tink, Bee, Bitz, Tizzy and Jessie..but nothing seemed right. Then my best friend Jane messaged me and reminded me about a name that I had thought of for Boo or Fozzie and that name was Pixel. It just seemed right. Links into the film and TV theme. There is a Disney film called Pixel Perfect, and it is a cute very original name...unlike all the previous suggestions.
I am struggling to think of her as Pixel and its not coming naturally at the moment to call her this after spending the previous week calling her puppy and various other names. I dont think I have met a single person yet who hasn't said what a great name it is, so thats good
I am sure over the coming weeks it will roll off the tongue. Trouble is people have already said she will be called Pixie which I hate. I don't mind Pix as a shortened version though. her registered name will be something along the lines of Megapixel ..............   ............  ?? Yet to be decided but will be linked to photo in someway.

She is an absolutely demon. Very confident and full on. Very very noisy and screams when she is in the pen. However she is the cleanest puppy I have ever had. She hasn't messed in her crate once and is 95% housetrained in a week. I picked her up at 7 weeks and she is now 8.5 weeks.
She is picking up things very quickly and she is Mega cute :-)

New Look and Lots of News.

Well after my excitement of getting my blog back at the end of last year, it was immediately hacked again. It was sorted 2-3 months ago,  but I deliberately left it a while to make sure all was ok before I published a lengthy blog.

So whats been happening in the Agility world.

Boo won up into Grade 4 in May last year and then this year she won up into Grade 5. When she's going well she's great, but I still feel I am struggling with Motivation and want .

Fozzie was going fantastically up until June 2014 and then his injury re occurred.. I asked for a referral to Fitzpatricks and he was diagnosed with Lumbarsacral disease. I had to give him loads of Physio and take him to water treadmill, but Boo was then chosen to be in a TV Series up in Cheshire ( see below )which meant from September through till December I was tied up most weeks and he missed most of his hydro and Physio. Yukky weather after Xmas meant I couldn't rehab him properly over jumps so he started the season in any size classes . My vet , the specialist and the Physio all said they couldn't see any reason why he couldn't return to full height competition, but I cant see it ever happening now. :-(
He will be 7 this year and with an injury I cant see him ever coming back on form.
I thought I'd be upset but on the contrary I wasn't a bit. He has always been such hardwork around the rings...he's very reactive and it gives me back ache and shoulder ache trying to hold him.
I had him entered at shows from July at full height leading up to the KC Festival and Adams. But I don't think he will be ready even if I spent the next 4 weeks trying to rehabilitate him.

Chip is now retired from full height competition. He's 10 now and has weak wrists caused by hyper extension. He will compete in all sorts for as long as he's happy.
I ran both him and Fozzie at Adams in May and they had a blast :-)

Boo started her Obedience career in May and won her 2 novice classes straight of. She then got a 4th in her first A round. However her scent and B work needed lots of work so I didnt compete with her again for the rest of the year.

She was entered for a couple of shows in June this year but sadly family commitments and weather meant she didnt go :-( Next week we have an Obedience show so we will see.

Media work in 2014 was fab. The dogs all appeared alongside myself in a new film due out soon called Absolutely Anything.
Fozzie did  Direct Line, Santander and Victoria Plumb Adverts. Chip and Boo did a still shoot for Fiat which turned into a nightmare for Boo. They turned a wind machine on full blast onto her without any prep or warning and she totally freaked out. It affected her for the rest of the day and since then at training too. In fact she is still a bit spooky in certain situations. She wouldn't even do agility at the indoor venue afterwards :-( I will now be extra careful if we ever have to go into a studio environment again.
Boo's highlight of 2014 was to be chosen for a part in the ITV programme called HomeFires set during World War 2.
We spent 12 weeks travelling back and forth to Cheshire to film staying in some lovely hotels.
Boo had a big part to play in the second episode and was totally fab.
The whole series will be available on Youtube soon and I will get a link for Episode 2 when its available.

Disney is now an amazing 17 years old. He is still remarkable but his sight isn't as good as it was and he's struggling a bit with the stairs due to a bit of arthritis I suspect and his sight. He can still manage fairly lengthy walks when its not too hot ,so he still has an excellent quality of life.

Woody well he is just Woody. Still a Peter Pan of dogs, still thinks and acts like a puppy and is still a total joy.

I wont upload a load of pictures and videos here. You can watch all videos on Youtube by following this link
